The Judah Benjamin Society operates strictly according to its Charter Values, listed below. These values are derived from the best elements of American and Southern tradition.
Our commitment to these values honors their best exponents: Southern American heroes like George Washington and Judah Benjamin himself.
All members, staff, and leaders of The Society are required to abide by the Charter Values at all times. Contravention of any value may result in termination of membership. Anyone with concerns about value adherence should contact the Executive Director immediately.
All members shall respect Southern tradition, symbols, and icons. All members shall accord themselves in manner befitting a Southern gentleman or lady.
All members shall respect the name and symbols of the United States of America. All members shall express loyalty to the flag and laws of the Republic. All members shall respect all members (past and present) of the United States military.
All members shall respect the legacy of Southern heroes, including all those who fought and served the Southern states in the War Between the States.
All members shall respect the Southern traditional of religious liberty and pluralism.
The Judah Benjamin Society has ZERO TOLERANCE for racism.
All members shall affirm racial equality.
All members shall affirm the words of the great Virginian, Thomas Jefferson, who wrote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
All members are expressly prohibited from engaging in any behavior which is, or may appear to be, prejudicial or bigoted.
All members are required to actively oppose prejudice wheresoever they may encounter it.
All members are required to promote racial harmony.
Finally, all members shall denounce and strenuously oppose the appropriation of Southern symbols and Southern heritage by parties who seek to promote hatred or bigotry.
In accordance with the ZERO TOLERNACE policy, contravention of the above is grounds for immediate, summary termination of Society membership, and a lifetime ban on participation in Society programs and events. Determinations regarding this zero tolerance policy are to be made at the sole discretion of the Executive Director.
We are inspired by great Southern men, like George Washington, who were committed to religious liberty and the inherent rights of men.
We work with faith groups -- churches and synagogues of all denominations -- to educate about the importance of religious liberty, and its long history in the South.
Schools and universities are eligible to participate in our scholarly programs, to advance the state of knowledge regarding Society-related subjects.
